Project/
COCONUT MASK is a multidisciplinary event that brings together an artistic installation with a musical and poetic intervention to create a complete experience.
The project is inspired by a sacred ceremonial mask carved from a coconut shell in the island of Puerto Rico. It’s called “Vejigante,” and It represents a giant demon portrayed in the carnival celebrations of Santiago Apóstol Matamoros. The Illustrations are part of a growing series that portrays the “Vejigante” character as an extraordinary hero and figure in Puerto Rican folklore that celebrates our
Afro-Caribbean and indigenous heritage through the ages.
